Methodology Approach

Our curriculum pays great emphasis on hands-on skills, concentration building, scaffolding to address the needs of the whole child. It encourages children to be curious learners and explore the world around them.

The planning and organization of the lessons and activities are integrated by a common project topic (Project Approach) to develop skills and knowledge in six key learning areas, namely Language and Literacy, Numeracy, Discovery of the World, Social and Emotional Development, Motor Skills Development, Aesthetics and Creative Expression. The Project Approach is the method of teaching children through project investigations. Teachers guide children through a three phase process from the beginning of a project to its conclusion. The Montessori methodology will also be integrated in our curriculum as our core skills based learning instructions method to lay a solid foundation in developing early reading and logical mathematical skills.

Bilingualism

Research has shown the benefits of early bilingualism. Young children have the innate ability to pick up more than one language seamlessly and simultaneously, as well as acquire native pronunciation naturally. Your child will be immersed in a Chinese speaking environment in which he/she gets lots of opportunities to hear and use the language. There will be culturally rich activities such as reciting Chinese poems, learning Chinese idioms, Chinese calligraphy, cultural music and dance, listen to Chinese stories throughout the year.

Montessori 5 Key Areas of Learning

Each area helps your child learn and grow by stimulating his/her senses through a systematic approach to active learning.

1. Practical Life

Practical life activities help your child accomplish life skills in a purposeful way. These activities include lessons in care for self, care for the environment, grace and courtesy. Your child learns to be more independent which leads to greater self-confidence and the ability to face new challenges. These activities also serve to enhance coordination and concentration and indirectly prepare your child for writing, reading and math.

2. Sensorial

Children are ‘sensorial explorers.  As such, sensorial activities tap into a child’s 5 senses of learning. These activities aim to assist your child in concentrating on the refinement of his/her intellectual senses through working with the sensorial materials. Your child is given the keys to classification of things around him/her which is the first step to organising his/her intelligence. Knowledge gained through working with the sensorial materials served as a foundation for acquiring Mathematical concepts.

3. Language

Montessori language materials are designed to develop and refine the intricacies of written and spoken language. Learning the letter sounds phonetically leads your child to learn to encode and bring the words together as a whole before he/she decode them into reading. Tracing sandpaper letters begins the natural progression into tracing. There is a natural progression – from concrete to abstract, objects to pictures, sandpaper letters to moveable alphabet, tracing to writing. Your child therefore develops the power of communication and expression, organization and classification as well as the development of thoughts.

4. Mathematics

Montessori math materials help your child approach math with hands-on and visual experience. They allow your child to associate concrete knowledge/experiences to abstract concepts and thus give a sequential understanding of mathematical concepts. Montessori math covers:

5. Culture

Cultural topics give your child a rich exposure to many areas of knowledge that he/she will encounter throughout his/her life, enabling him/her to develop an early interest in learning about the world, science, nature, history, culture, music and art.

By fostering cultural awareness, it provides opportunities for your child to inquire, investigate and make connections between him/herself and the physical world around them.
